Cleo is a researcher with big dreams of a PhD in anthrozoology, and a guilty pleasure obsession with Know Your Newlywed, a decades-old gameshow where married couples compete by answering obscure questions about each other. She's more invested in her career than in finding a relationship of her own, though—that is, until she comes across Javi's dating app profile, which says he's "looking for someone to win Know Your Newlywed with."
Sparks fly, and when Cleo and Javi catch wind of a reboot of their beloved show, they apply on a whim, pretending to be newlyweds themselves. Mary Mouser, Tyler Posey, and a full cast delight listeners in this immersive rom-com. Cleo has been obsessed with the decades-old game show "Know Your Newlywed," in which married couples compete. Currently pursuing her PhD in anthrozoology, she has put aside finding a relationship. But then she comes across Javi's dating app profile and discovers he loves "Know Your Newlywed," too. When a reboot of the show occurs, the two pretend to be married to compete. Mouser's upbeat, vibrant tone showcases Cleo's passion for the game while Posey's warm timbre adds a touch of vulnerability and humility to Javi's demeanor. Cleo, a researcher and PhD hopeful, and Javi, a wannabe food truck owner, live in two separate cities but connect on a dating app over their mutual love of the old game show Know Your Newlywed. When a reboot is announced, they fake being married to have their chance on the show. They don't expect to win--or to fall for each other--but they do. Nussbaum and Taylor's debut is a delightful, full-cast audiobook featuring Tyler Posey from Teen Wolf as Javi and Mary Mouser from Cobra Kai as Cleo, along with several other acclaimed narrators, including Helen Laser and Graham Halstead. The result, produced by Elena Armas, is more like listening to a radio show than an audiobook. The narration sets the tone, from the game show's announcer to the sound effects to the conversations between Cleo and Javi. VERDICT Listeners will fall head over heels for this quick, flirty, and fun audiobook in which dreams really do come true and love shows up when it's least expected.--Elyssa Everling
