Madison James finds a black rose on her bed on the fifth anniversary of her husband's murder. She plans to deal with that after she fulfills a prisoner-transport assignment with Jonas Quinn, protecting two prisoners on a plane trip. The plane crashes, and only she, Jonas, and one prisoner survive. Next thing they know, they're engaged in a risky and twisty chase in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest on to Colorado in pursuit of a deadly dangerous fugitive as he murders another man and uses two women as hostages to secure exchange for money and assistance. Madison and Jonas find themselves warming toward one another as they try to stay one step ahead of the killer. When Madison finally returns home, she has to face more violence associated with her husband's death, bringing her even closer to Jonas. An excellent thriller with well-drawn characters, and the suspenseful start to Harris' new U.S. Marshals series, this will please fans of Catherine Coulter and J. T. Ellison's Brit in the FBI series.
