In the second Dark Alliance romantic thriller (after Deceived), SeRine continues at the same breakneck pace, but this time around the cross-generational story line is about competing loyalties. Madeleine “Maddie” Blake and Jack Grayson have a touchy romantic history, but she refuses to let that interfere with their professional relationship. She joined his black ops team when they took on a dangerous mission for the Dark Alliance, a modern iteration of the Knights Templar. That mission failed and they lost a valued teammate. Now a second mission has come along that brings the two of them together once again. Blazing guns and face-to-face combat in the Central American heat end with Jack’s capture. Their boss, Jack’s father, puts the Alliance above everything, even family. But when Maddie is faced with a life-or-death decision, she risks her career and the Alliance’s goals by choosing to rescue Jack. Fine characterization of the protagonists heightens their tense romantic relationship and emphasizes Maddie’s ambivalence regarding the Dark Alliance. Even though the balance between thriller and romance weighs heavily on the thriller side, SeRine’s fans are certain to enjoy this one. Agent: Nicole Resciniti, Seymour Agency.
