Slow Dating the Detective

A gentle bartender might have what it takes to mend a relationship-phobic detective's broken heart... but first they have to admit they're dating.

Keenan Day could kick himself for letting the hot, dark-haired stranger he met outside a strip club get away. Instead of a phone number, he gets a punch in the face—from the boyfriend of his prospective employer at the Cowboys and Angels bar. When two cops come to check up on him, one is the sexy stranger, Detective Nate Gordon.

The initial attraction hasn't cooled, and though Nate is leery of commitment, one hookup turns into another until they're seeing each other in everything but name. After a recent nasty breakup, Nate balks at being part of a couple, and Keenan agrees, even though that's all he's ever wanted.

Just as they reach a standstill, a crisis shows them what their friends have known all along—they've already moved way past hookups. Now they just have to decide how to move forward.

In the steamy third romance of Brown’s Cowboys and Angels series (after Secretly Dating the Lionman), casual sex gives way to real feelings. When Keenan Day’s older sister, Sarah, drags him to a strip club, he spends the evening flirting with Nate, a handsome stranger he assumes he’ll never see again. While interviewing for a bartending job shortly after, Keenan is shocked when Nate walks in with Keenan’s detective twin sister Karen’s partner. It turns out that Nate is Detective Gordon, the NYPD’s new hire who Karen won’t stop talking about. The attraction between Keenan and Nate is immediate, but recently heartbroken Nate makes it clear that he’s not looking for anything serious. Nate insists on referring to their dates as “hook ups” as a way to keep Keenan at arm’s length even after they start spending nonsexual time together and grow more romantic. But when traumatic events force the pair to rely on one another for support, they can no longer deny their feelings. The scorching sex scenes and sweet romantic moments will have readers rooting for Keenan and Nate’s happily ever after.

Keenan Day is having a horrible night. His sister dragged him to a male strip club, which he normally wouldn't mind, except having her there makes it weird. When he steps out for some fresh air, he meets a sexy stranger, then spends the rest of the night regretting that he didn't get the man's phone number. Within a couple of days, Keenan's world turns upside down when he loses his job and is accidentally punched by the husband of a prospective employer. One of the detectives who checks in on him is his sexy stranger, Nate Gordon. Nate refuses to date after a bad relationship, but before long, Keenan isn't satisfied with merely hooking up. The story is told from Keenan's point of view, which makes him more relatable but Nate not as fleshed out. VERDICT Brown's third entry in her "Cowboys & Angels" series (after Secretly Dating the Lionman) works well as a stand-alone, but fans of the series will enjoy revisiting characters from the first books.
