Christmas comes to Highland, Ga., in the fun and flirty third installment to Trentham’s rom-com series (after A Highlander in a Pickup). Claire Smythe came to Highland from Scotland when her band, the Scunners, was hired to play a local festival, and is reluctant to return to the responsibility awaiting her in Scotland: on her 25th birthday, the day after Christmas, she’ll inherit shares of Glennallen Whisky, her family’s empire. She dreads being forced to participate in corporate politics, and decides to hide out in Highland, taking a job as a live-in caregiver for Ms. Meadows, an elderly widow. Though Ms. Meadows warns Claire away from their handsome neighbor, rancher Holt Pierson, Claire can’t deny her attraction to Holt, who has never been anything but kind toward Claire. But when their mutual attraction sizzles into a steamy physical relationship, Claire is reluctant to get too emotionally attached, knowing eventually she’ll have to leave and face her family’s expectations. Claire’s transformation from a world-weary drifter with trust issues into a caring, confident woman is magnetic. This adorable romance makes for perfect holiday reading.
