Grades 3-5 Many kids are curious about makeup. This selection from the Searchlight Books: My Style series (4 titles), provides a quick introduction to cosmetics, citing ancient Egyptians, classic film stars, and current lifestyle influencers. Asserting that makeup is for everyone, the numerous full-color photos include a diverse cast of kids of varying ages and genders. Emphasis is placed on natural products, healthy hygiene practices, and safety considerations (including asking for parental permission and guidance). There are suggestions regarding how to apply various products, plus a few beauty hacks (tips on shaping eyebrows, etc.). Back matter includes a glossary and resources for further research. Young readers are encouraged to experiment and try out various looks, eventually determining their own comfortable, unique style. An affirming offering that complements Christian Allaire's The Power of Style (2021).

Gr 3-5-Style is for everyone! Upbeat and inclusive, filled with fascinating facts and photos of cool kids and famous folks, these style guides are brimming with shelf appeal. Far from dictating materialistic trend advice, the focus here is on self-expression and experimentation. Vocabulary and styles are as inclusive as the models- Hair and Nails talks about Marsai Martin's box braids and baby hairs as well as Ariana Grande's high pony. My Amazing Makeup features photos of male-presenting models as well as celebs Adam Lambert and Prince looking terrific in a variety of makeup looks. Clean, colorful design coordinates well with the stylish, eco-friendly, and healthy messages throughout. VERDICT Words to live by: "The only opinion that matters about your look is your own" (Makeup).
